| Joseph Ernest serait revenu à Cacouna

Joseph Ernest probably came back to
Cacouna with his family sometime between the censuses of 1901 and 1911.
According to the 1911 census, he works as a clerk in a store in
Rivière-du-Loup and resides in the boarding house held by his future
mother-in-law, Anna Bergeron-Savard. He earns $ 400 per year. Alberta is
the only one of the Savard children still living with their mother in
1911. She is employed as an accountant. |
| le 2/03/1916, Joseph Ernest s'engage
dans le 189ième Bataillon d'infanterie du Corps Expéditionnaire Canadien.
Il est promu Battalion Quarter Master Sergeant le 4/09/1916 et arrive en
Angleterre le 6/10/1916. Il restera en Angleterre jusqu'à sa
démobilisation et sera de retour au Canada le 16/05/1919. |
On 03/02/1916, Joseph Ernest enlists in
the 189th Infantry Battalion of the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary
Forces. On 09/04/1916 he is promoted Battalion Quarter Master Sergeant
and arrives in England on 10/06/1916. He is stationed in England
until he is demobilized and arrives back in Canada on 05/16/1919. |

He enlists in a special police unit
fighting the illegal trafficking of alcohol between Canada and the USA
during prohibition. He is stationed first in Rivière-du-Loup then in
Matane. With the repeal on the Prohibition Act in 1933, his unit
is dissolved and he obtains his transfer to the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police in Ottawa where he will serve until his retirement. |
