| Utilisées pour la défense des colonies, elles dépendaient du Ministère de la Marine. Ces unités sont les ancêtres des fusiliers marins. | Used for the defense of the colonies, they reported to the Ministry of the Navy. These units are the forebearers of the modern "Marines". |
| Chaque compagnie, commandée par un Capitaine, comportait environ 50 hommes | Each Company was commanded by a captain and was about 50 men strong. |
